At Crisis House, we recognize that experiencing homelessness as a couple presents unique challenges. Many traditional shelter systems are designed for individuals, which can result in partners being separated when they need each other most. That’s why we’re committed to helping couples navigate the resources available in San Diego County — including the services we offer right here at Crisis House.
The Unique Needs of Homeless Couples
Couples experiencing homelessness often face a difficult choice: stay together on the streets or separate to access shelter. This can create additional emotional strain and slow progress toward housing stability. Safe, accommodating shelter that supports the bond between partners is essential for long-term success.
How Crisis House Can Help
At Crisis House, our خدمات المشردين program — East County Housing Connections (ECHC) — helps individuals and families, including couples, exit homelessness. While we do not currently operate an emergency shelter onsite, our mobile outreach team works directly with people experiencing homelessness to:
- Provide housing assessments and referrals
- Navigate shelter and housing opportunities
- Connect individuals and couples to essential support services
If you’re a couple in need of shelter or support, we encourage you to contact us to see how our team can help you access the right resources in East San Diego County and beyond.
Additional Resources for Homeless Couples in San Diego
While our services focus on long-term housing solutions, we collaborate with and refer to community partners that may provide emergency shelter for couples:
- Safe Parking Programs: For couples living in their vehicles, these programs offer a secure place to park overnight and access case management.
- San Diego Rescue Mission: Offers shelter and recovery programs for individuals and families; couples can inquire directly about available accommodations.
- Catholic Charities Diocese of San Diego: Provides shelter services and may accommodate couples depending on availability.
- 211 San Diego: For real-time shelter availability and referrals, call 2-1-1 or visit 211sandiego.org.
What Couples Should Know When Seeking Shelter
- Be Clear About Your Needs: When contacting a shelter or provider, be specific that you are seeking shelter as a couple. Some organizations can accommodate or provide alternatives.
- Be Flexible: Availability can shift quickly. Our team can help you explore a variety of solutions, including shared housing, transitional housing, or rapid rehousing.
- Stay Connected to Services: Navigating homelessness is easier when you have consistent support. We offer trauma-informed care to help you and your partner move toward stability — together.
